for the Design Week 2023, Genoa

“How can an exhibition involve its audience?”
The exhibition Tre alla Terza / Arte si fa Design, organised on the occasion of the Genoa BeDesign Week 2023, had energy as its central theme. I participated as curator together with two other professionals, and the exhibition was developed over three locations, with works that followed the principles of the three laws of thermodynamics: the ‘three’ as a destabilising element, apparently chaotic, became the symbol of energy that transforms, flows and finds its own ordering dimension.
The three exhibition spaces hosted works that ranged from an intimate and personal dimension to a collective and participatory dimension, passing through a social and popular reflection. The artists involved created works that responded to the specific character of each location, transforming artistic expression into design.
Curating this exhibition allowed me to understand the complexity of organising an event involving multiple artists and venues. It was also an opportunity to further my university studies by developing the concept and planning an effective communication strategy.
Together with a colleague, I curated the opening event, creating a brochure called a Short and Participatory Guide, which accompanied visitors through the three locations. The aim was to make the public interact with the works, inviting them to experience them in an active and engaging way, breaking the traditional passive contemplation. The guide offered suggestions for viewing the works from different perspectives, stimulating deeper participation.
